For the first time in Thripunithura -from where Cochin was ruled by the erstwhile Kings ; a horticulture show was inaugurated on 12th January 2012. Named ' Hortus malabaricus flower festival' to remind people on their precious heritage;It was inaugurated by Kerala state ministers K. Babu & Anoop Jacob in presense of Chairman Venugopal,M.G.S.Narayanan;RejiKumar,Sundaram,Thilothama Suresh and Sasi at the sprawling Hill Palace grounds. The spot light on the show was an extensive collection of medicinal plants; the biggest ever in Kerala. Besides the colorful flower varieies ; the Thripunithura ayurveda college exhibited their huge collection of medicinal plants.One of the biggest collection of medicinal plants by a private individual - A.V.Purushothama Kamath of Cochin- was also there. Both collections were neatly laid out and well tagged; details like common name,scientific name and family were displayed.
At the main entrance and at the Ayurveda College pavillion details of Itty Achuthan vadyar's birthplace, his 8th generation descendents now living there and directions for visiting the place were displayed prominently for the information of interested visitors.As the exhibition was arranged adjacent to the already existing Hortus Malabaricus plant collection and the Hortus Malabaricus museum gallery ;the huge crowds who thronged the show everyday were able to see those also.It was a joint effort by Centre for Heritage Studies and Thripunithura muncipality.The untiring efforts put by the Muncipal Chairman Venugopal and supported very well by the Deputy Chairperson Tilothama Suresh and the Division Councillor Sasi made it a grand success.
